Summary

Their lives began together, but their worlds couldn't be more different。 After thirty years of missed connections, they're about to meet again。。。

Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met。 Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year's Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990—and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well。 With luck like that, it's no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before。

When Minnie unexpectedly runs into Quinn at a New Year's party on their mutual thirtieth birthday, she sees only more evidence that fortune has continued to favor him。 The gorgeous, charming business owner truly seems to have it all—while Minnie's on the brink of losing her pie-making company and her home。 But if Quinn and Minnie are from different worlds, why do they keep bumping into each other? And why is it that each fraught encounter leaves them both wanting more?

A moving, joyful love story, This Time Next Year explores the way fate leads us to the people we least expect—no matter what the odds。

Destiny has a hand in Cousens’s touching debut。 Minnie Cooper and Quinn Hamilton were born in the same hospital on January 1, 1990, but while Quinn, whose family bagged the cash prize for having the first baby born in the ’90s, has always loved his birthday, Minnie’s New Year’s celebrations have always gone horribly and she believes the holiday is jinxed。 New Year’s Eve 2019 is no different: she’s dragged to her boyfriend’s work friend’s party, someone vomits on her shirt, and she manages to lock herself in the washroom while trying to clean it up。 She isn’t rescued until the next morning—by Quinn。 The days after go from bad to worse for Minnie as her catering business approaches the brink of ruin and her landlord evicts her from her apartment。 Surprisingly, Quinn swoops in to save the day again, proving himself unworthy of the hatred Minnie’s carried for him all these years for claiming the money her family desperately needed。 Flashbacks to New Year’s past and subplots about both Quinn and Minnie’s families add depth, while hilarious secondary characters inject levity in just the right places。 The romance is slow to sizzle, but Cousens’s debut is ripe with both emotional vulnerability and zaniness。 (Dec。)

A cute, light, romantic story of good luck vs awful luck。 How is it that every birthday brings a stroke of horror for Minnie Cooper? She carries a huge chip on her shoulder which creates negativity to follow her everywhere in her life! That is until # 30! She meets her nursery mate on their birthday。 He was born the same day and actually only a wee bit before Minnie。 Can he help Minnie to drop the adversity in her life? Can life start to "go right" for Minnie? Stay tuned and read this book! You will totally enjoy these people!

This was an absolutely delightful novel。 This Time Next Year swept me up and into the lives of the characters。 I was more than happy to spend my free moments within the pages of this book。 It really is the whole package。 It is a charming, witty, quirky, lovely story that, once I was reading it, I did not want to put down。Minnie is sure that she is jinxed。 Her birthday should be a happy, special day for her, but it has always been overshadowed by her mother’s superstition and her own streak of ba This was an absolutely delightful novel。 This Time Next Year swept me up and into the lives of the characters。 I was more than happy to spend my free moments within the pages of this book。 It really is the whole package。 It is a charming, witty, quirky, lovely story that, once I was reading it, I did not want to put down。Minnie is sure that she is jinxed。 Her birthday should be a happy, special day for her, but it has always been overshadowed by her mother’s superstition and her own streak of bad luck。 I loved Minnie right from the get-go, bad luck, and all。 She’s a normal woman, trying to make a go of her life, career, and romantic life。 While none of these things seemed to go swimmingly for her, she was still trudging along trying to make a life for herself。 Throughout this novel Minnie learned to be comfortable with herself, be self-sufficient, and to look out for her own fulfillment。When she meets Quinn on New Year’s Eve, he seems to be everything she’s not, however, she can’t help but be captivated by his obvious charm。 But what makes meeting him even more rare is that they were born on the same day and at the same hospital。 From their first introduction these two characters seemed destined to run into each other time and time again。While Minnie believes that Quinn seems to live a charmed, easy life compared to her own harried existence, she truly doesn’t know him well enough to simply assume anything about his life。 The one thing that she does know is that spending time with him is what she looks forward to the most。I loved these characters。 From the main characters to the secondary ones, this cast of characters was brimming with personality。 I always felt as though I was right there with them, experiencing all of the highs and lows。 What I enjoyed the most about this story was how serendipitous it was。 The chapters from the past and the present timelines just added to the overall romantic feeling of this story。As I was reading This Time Next Year, I kept checking to see how much time I had left in the novel。 I didn’t want it to end! This novel was completely satisfying, heartwarming, and utterly endearing。 I will definitely be looking forward to more books by Sophie Cousens。*I received a copy of the book from the publisher (via NetGalley)。 。。。more

Super predictable and not that original, but enjoyable enough。 Was looking for something light and easy to get through and this was definitely that。

I kind of wanted to give this book 2 stars, but considering how fast I flew through it and that the writing itself was decent, I decided on a 3 star rating。 Overall an enjoyable read。 My main issue was that romance was a bit dull。 This book, being fairly predictable, did not keep me guessing at all, which is not an appealing trait in a romance book。 I kind of just assumed that the main couple would get together in the end but I honestly didn’t really care what happened to them as a couple。 The s I kind of wanted to give this book 2 stars, but considering how fast I flew through it and that the writing itself was decent, I decided on a 3 star rating。 Overall an enjoyable read。 My main issue was that romance was a bit dull。 This book, being fairly predictable, did not keep me guessing at all, which is not an appealing trait in a romance book。 I kind of just assumed that the main couple would get together in the end but I honestly didn’t really care what happened to them as a couple。 The story itself is enjoyable for what it is, I just personally don’t think this is a book that I will keep or read again in the future。 。。。more

Okay, I’m a sucker for a great romance novel。 This delivered in so many ways! It felt refreshing and honest, especially since the dialect is a bit different in accordance with it’s setting as opposed to The U。S。 There was wonderful comedy and truly bittersweet moments that made me cry。 I loved the idea of fate that brought this book together。 A wonderful debut book- I look forward to reading more from this author!

Good rom-com, corny and funny, definitely a page turner。 I would have gave 5 stars if only some small details weren’t over the definition of “deus ex machina”, especially in the beginning where Minnie “casually” calls Quinn while scrolling on Facebook。 Who has ever managed to do something like that? That would be absurd for a grandma using a smartphone for the first time, so that’s not exactly the most believable thing to do for a 30 years old, no matter how clumsy she is。 Besides these small de Good rom-com, corny and funny, definitely a page turner。 I would have gave 5 stars if only some small details weren’t over the definition of “deus ex machina”, especially in the beginning where Minnie “casually” calls Quinn while scrolling on Facebook。 Who has ever managed to do something like that? Quirky, light and easy! A romcom full of cliches and serendipitous coincidences that I found rather delightful。 Maybe it’s this year we’ve been having—but this book was exactly what I wanted it to be and I loved every second of it。

Cute story that held my interest, but the ending was kind of hokey。

This was a great romance about two people from different backgrounds that meet at a New Year's Eve party。 Minnie and Quinn discover they were born at the same place and the same time on New Year's Eve。 This isn't enough for them to start a relationship on。 However, they keep bumping into each other despite being complete opposites。 I really enjoyed this story。 It was the light read that I needed at this time of year。

Or are they more similar than she thought? 30 years later she is finding out just how close their paths have always been from crossing。I highly recommend starting your December month with this new book! I have never heard of Sophie Cousens but I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style。 She weaved the past and present together very nicely! She wrote from a third person’s point of view and it was perfect for this story。 The reader was able to feel the emotions from all the characters, especially Quinn and Minnie。 There were a few heavy themes that made the book more meaningful than just another chicky rom-com! I am a sucker for a holiday themed book set in London。 I could just picture the tiny little flats Minnie lived in, the parks and ponds, and each of the New Year’s Eve nights。 Minnie gave me Bridget Jones vibes with her unique clothes, quirky confidence, and teeny bit of awkwardness。 She also had a perfectly random group of friends, some family issues, and moments of feeling utterly lost in life。 Relatable to a lot of readers!Quinn is tall, handsome, and sure of himself… (at least in my mind hehe)。 But like an onion, there’s layers to his life that only the lucky few get to peel back。 I adored the genuine friendship the two of them grew together。 It was nice and you could feel it through the words on the pages。 Overall。。。 this is a feel good, guaranteed to make you smile, PG rated romantic read! I predict this one to be very popular this holiday season。 Don’t miss out - grab it, curl up in your favorite reading nook, & get ready to fall in love with all things Quinn and Minnie。*Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy in exchange for my honest review!* 。。。more
